Happy New Year Friends!

Hi Friends!

Happy New Year! Did you see the new year in? We went to the early fireworks with the kids and realxed in the airconditioning to see off 2021 ☺️ Its been steamy here!

I am on holidays for another week and am trying to get a little done around the house … some painting etc. I feel like I need a bomb under me to find some motivation, tho!

I have been doing a little sewing tho ☺️

I’m off to do a little more sewing now! Happy January, Happy 2022!

Another Finish!

Yes! You read that right! I have finished another UFO quilt! 🙂

This one is the baby quilt for my little nephew who is about to turn 2! At last, oops!

Here is the front :The back :The awesome striped binding and it is tagged! :

I did a FMQ meandering stitch all over (yay me!) and it finished about 54″ x 48 “.

Going to see if I can squeeze a new start (and finish) into the next couple of weeks 🙂 Hope life is treating you well, thanks for stopping by! ❤

2018 – Friend or Foe?

Well, most people I know think the last couple of years have been, to quote the Queen …  “Annus horribilus”. And I tend to agree. It’s been a rough couple for our family too.

I wish for us all that 2018 is a better one. A “Friend” if you will …

If you’ve been round here for a while you’ll know I don’t make NY resolutions. But I do choose a word for the year. For 2018 I have chosen :

Finish is something I aspire to do more of in 2018. And I started off the year by living my new word. Wrapped around my 2018 word above, is a pic of my very first Quilt top finish for the year. Granted, it’s not a totally finished quilt yet, but it will be quilted soon and I will bind it and prepare for it’s new home … How pretty is that Bonnie & Camille “Hello Darling”? 🙂

Besides being horrible, the last couple of years I have found it challenging to actually make a plan and finish things. I make lists that don’t get completed, start projects that turn into UFO’s, extended my Interior Design course (again!!), and basically, constantly feel disorganised and chaotic.
I did not finish one single quilt last year.
NOT.ONE. ==> This one has been sitting for a year!!
I made blocks. I did a little sewing. I didn’t finish anything. Sad.

Anyhow. Here’s cheers to a fantastic, safe, creative and productive 2018.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder, Yes?

So then you guys must be VERY fond of me then, hey? haha

How are you?
I am still plodding along.
It’s been an extremely busy and tiring few months here … We have 2 weeks of school holidays coming up and I have some time off work booked and we are just going to do NOTHING! I am working the weekends, but otherwise PJ days is the plan 🙂 Oh, and we might go to the movies one day and see Finding Dory {I wouldn’t be able to wait for the DVD. Yes, me not the kids haha}

I love Dory! Crush and Squirt are firm favourites 🙂

This is probably going to be my last ever raggy quilt. It’s just getting too hard to find quality flannel here these days. Oh well … I enjoy regular quilting more anyway these days I guess 🙂 This one is for my little niece! It’s a large single bed size and I am a little bit in love with it!IMG_8320Front.IMG_8317Back.
I have a brand new nephew! He was born last month on Star Wars Day {Mother of boys info I never knew I needed to know! haha}
May the 4th be with youHe is the most precious little bundle! I have started nearly finished a quilt for him. Then I need to get cracking on one each for my elder two nephews.
They have been waiting long enough so patient!
A sneak peek :IMG_8522It’s a simple square patchwork with meandering quilting. But it’s very cute 🙂

I also have another top-secret project on the burner. As well as trying to get a bit of furniture painting in somewhere. I did do some painting a couple of weeks ago –
IMG_9257This is chalk board paint around my pantry entrance {… and this is the tidiest it’s been since we started using it haha The boys LOVE it!} There’s usually a small canvas covering the yellow phone point because we don’t use it and it annoys me to see it there. But I need to sand the spot for the hook …
Anyhow, I am about to crash!
Cya next time ❤

Unfinished …

I had a shocker 24 hours yesterday!
It started when I had the battery replace on my car Monday and didn’t stop til I got home at 6pm  last night! *phew!*

Interestingly, I just made a typo on the title – put “Unfunished”
That wouldn’t have been untrue either! haha

As I have mentioned before, I joined in the Australian Kate Spain Charm Swap hosted by the fabulous Ms Midge

Melissa {Ms Midge} arranged a fantabulous bunch of prizes and a “Charm-Along” to show off our gorgeous bundles.
I had been {slowly} working towards the cut off date. But alas … the afore-mentioned shocker 24 hours has been my undoing! I intended to get the top completed Monday night and get some pics taken in the morning. Blog. Link-up. Easy … Right?
Yeahhh … not so much! When I didn’t get quite completed I was going to finish and take pics in the morning.
Nope, no go then either.

So. I am out.
And what makes it even sadder is the fact that I have found my MOJO!! haha

~*~

…………………………………………….. Or So I thought!!!!
I was just now reading my emails {mainly blog posts I am addicted to 😉 } while I worked on this post, and I followed a link from Molli Sparkle’s Kate Spain beauty to Ms Midge’s Linky Party for the Charm Along.

And ….. saw this :

“All you have to do is link up your project at the bottom of this post before 5pm WEDNESDAY THE 6TH OF AUGUST, MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA TIME, and the winners will be chosen and announced Wednesday night here on the blog.”

eeeeekkkkkk!!! I am still in this! haha

~*~

Back now!
Off I went to buzz the rest together and I am happy to announce I am DONE!
I finished!
And you are reading the blog post to prove it! 😉

EDIT : I should add, she’s a Queen Size 🙂

Some Days Are Diamond

… some days are stone. Some times the hard times won’t leave me alone.
Some times the cold winds blow a chill in my bones.
Some days are diamonds, some days are stone.
Gotta love John Denver for ‘Where-I’m-at-today-lyrics’ haha

I don’t know if it’s because it’s Winter, {Winter gets a bad rap from me cos I don’t like the cold 😉 }
Or if I just lost my MOJO …
But I am reallllllly struggling to put a nice block together the last week or two!

Whatever it is, it always seems to happen when I am on a deadline!

As I have mentioned before, I participated in the first Aussie Kate Spain Charm Swap run by the lovely Ms Midge this last month or two.

Sew … Ms Midge has a fab competition happening that we have to enter our projects made with the Kate Spain charms! I spent a big chunk of my weekend and a few nights of last week cutting, stitching, cutting again and then trimming 448 Half Square Triangles {HST’s} for my project.
Simple, right? WRONG … I have been struggling to match points and am really regretting my whole idea now 😦

I laid out the block I am aiming for here :

KS Charm Along

Sew far, sew good.
Start sewing them and fall in a heap! Gah!!

I also made my July Bee block over the weekend. It was HST’s too and I tell ya! It took so many goes to get it right!!
I was afraid I was going to fray the seams from too much unpicking!!

Bee Block ~ July

Pretty block, hey? Our July Queen asked for bright happy colours. I liked the combo enough to cut one for myself in the same fabrics – Did I mention I was going to make a quilt with replica blocks from this Bee? Anyhow, it was lucky I cut mine, cos I did fray the corner of one when Betsy decided to have a hissy fit! {She is due for a service but I am pushing her so I can finish the KS project 🙂 }

A lady I know thru my other hobby – timber work/furniture make overs – is moving back to the US next month and I am hoping to buy her Janome to keep as a spare. I’ve always thought I’d love a second machine, especially when I am sewing with 2 different colours and it’s a pain to change the thread haha. Perhaps I should find a second overlocker too! 😀

Anyhow … here’s hoping a good sleep will return my MOJO and I get this quilt top done by the weekend!

Linking back to Ms Midge where you can find details on the Kate Spain Charm Along and Swap 🙂

Down in the Dumps

Yep. I’m down. If you don’t feel like reading this one I don’t blame you. Skim past, leave me a smile in comments and I will come back in a few days and be happy again. For now, I am in such a funk! And I just don’t know what to do with myself!

I internalise a lot of my environment. And I am desperately unhappy at my ‘real’ job right now. It’s spilling into my personal life and I dont know where to go from here. I would give almost anything to not have to go to work on Saturday 😦 I have, this week moved to my 3rd store {in the same chain} in the last 5mths and I feel so disjointed it’s not even close to amusing. I am considering begging my original boss for my original job back. Just until I decide what I want to be when I grow the hell up. I’m sick of treading water in a dead end job. Dead end for me anyway. Others seem able to make a career of the place. I can see why. It is quite stable and not always a bad place to be. I just guess I’ve never seen it as a long term place … Tho I have been in the company for 3.5 years now. So it’s not like I move from job to job.

Ugh! Whinge over. If you got this far you must be my sister {haha Hi Boo, love you long time! xoxox}

~*~

I feel like kicking my own ass! I am struggling to find motivation to do anything! I have been participating in the most lovely Quilting Bee I could have ever imagined for myself. My block was November and I had just found the mojo to get cracking on the 8 extra blocks I need to turn it into a quilt when I lost steam again.

Kate's Bee Block!

Remember this? Yes? It still looks exactly the same!!!! I have completed all the extra scrap strings and am half way thru putting the white strips round them. So not too far to go 🙂

I tried my very first paper pieced block – a star! – in the last couple of weeks and decided since it was scrap/white trim/black background too that I would use that on a plain black back for this quilt … so that is even half done! This is the Star block :

IMG_3031
{Dont look too closely, it’s far from perfect. But I think for my first time it’d pretty cool!}

Anyhow … I am very much enjoying the sewing I manage to get done right now. I am being a good girl and have reined in my spending on fabric lol I am determined to put a dint in my stash in 2014. A friend wants me to go to Spotlight with her tomorrow.
I plan on coming out with only some plain white quilters cotton and a 1/2m I need to purchase for one of my swapping Bees. And!!! I have my birthday voucher from Spotty to spend so hopefully those won’t even cost me anything! 😀

How much fabric do you have in your stash?

~*~

My spectacular babies went off to school last week. My big boy is in grade 3 and my baby has just started Kindy. He goes 5 days a fortnight and I miss him dreadfully!!!! We both had tears {2 days of them!} But I managed to not let him see them and he really does seem to be enjoying himself! Which is a relief.

IMG_3054
Here are my Two Little Rascals! How handsome they are!!!!!

It’s so scary sending your heart off every day. I feel empty and count down the hours til I get to collect them.
I know I am probably silly, but I really worry when they aren’t with me!! Do other Mums feel this way?? I’m sure I will grow out of it. And I am starting to enjoy being able to do something by myself for a couple of hours a week now tho 🙂

How are you guys doing? I’d love if you left me a comment and tell me what’s new in your world!

Catch ya next time! ❤

Time Flies When You’re Having Fun

 “… And sometimes when you’re not.

Not that I’m having a bad time of things. Just in a bit of a rutt, or funk I think.

I seem to be procrastination more than usual and have lost my sewing ‘mojo’.
I was half way thru writing a whinge but then thought, “It wont help anything and will only make me feel bad” so I will instead post an inspirational picture from the wisest being I know of 😉 “

MANIC2

HMMMMMM
I wrote the above in early November … I have been so very slack with my posts! So sorry! {Not about Yoda – Yoda is good, Yoda is wise! He actually says this quote for my message alert on my phone! haha}.
I don’t know how I am ever going to become the most successful blogger in the world if I don’t actually blog! {Kidding, I have no such aspirations! If just one or two friends read this I will feel totally privileged! 😀 Anyone more is a bonus!}

Truth is, I was in a *total* funk back then!

I was going thru a transfer at work, taking on more work in my petminding and other endeavours and to be honest,
I just felt like I had no time to myself! My introverted self can sometimes come to the forefront and I can become claustrophobic and all peopled-out ….. I have also since then regained my sewing Mojo and we are firing ahead! Yaay!

This is the ‘inspirational’ picture I now need to live by :

MANIC

haha seems apt – I need to just DO for a change 🙂

I have mentioned I think, that I joined my very first Quilting Bee!! For our October Queen Bee we made Granny Squares!
Here are the ones I made her that I mentioned in my last post, oh-so-very-long-ago! :

IMG_2545

I was Queen Bee for November!! Squeeeeee!!
THIS is the amazing fantastic, gorgeous, beautiful, far-exceeds-my-expectations result :

Kate's Bee Block!

Mine is the top left block and the other 11 were sent from 11 very talented ladies from all over Australia!!

Gorgeous isn’t it?!!!! I adore it! I intend on making another 8 to make an extra later top and side which will take it to about single bed sized! AND!!! When I say I intend to – I have already started!!! HA HA – See = My mojo’s BACK lovely’s!!!

Have a fantabulous Thursday – Who can smell the weekend?
