Another New Year …

Time goes by so damn fast!

I think I feel it mainly since I had my boys, they are growing like weeds and I need them to slow down!!

Here they are this week with some of my little pet-minding clients 🙂

Here is the Christmas tree skirt I made for us this year:

Now, I’m not really one for New Year Resolutions.

But I like to set myself some goals :

The first goal I have for 2014 is to eat better and lose some lard. I am so sick of being fat and would really love to not be perpetually uncomfortable any more!!

The second goal I have is to figure out what I want to do with my life and get moving in that direction.
I would like to do a TAFE course of some sort.
Even if it’s not exactly what I want, I need to learn something new and open up some opportunities for myself.

The third goal I have for myself is to try to complete one quilting project per month.
I know lots of quilters do heaps more, but I am relatively new to this caper and I don’t like to set the goalposts too far away. It sets you up to fail 🙂

My fourth and final goal is very broad. It’s to be better.
By this I mean, do better; eat better; exercise better; be a better mother, wife, daughter, friend; work better; waste less time; stop swearing {a tough one for me cos I like it so much! 😉 haha} …

~*~

Whatever you have planned for it,
I hope 2014 brings all you dream for!

~*~

2014 looks to be a busy one for us, my littlest man is off to Kindy 5 days a fortnight this year!!!!
I will miss him dreadfully! 😦 But I think he is more than ready for it.
So I will have 30 whole hours a fortnight to do something for me … the possibilities are endless!
I can sew un-interrupted, do my TAFE course, who knows! I had hoped to move to days at my current job but that doesn’t look like a possibility atm, so a change of jobs may even be on the cards! 🙂

Anyhow, my lappy is going in for a service this week so I will pop back when she gets back and hopefully have some new goodies to show you 🙂 Here’s to a fantastic 2014 for us all!

Things I dont get …

There are A LOT of things I don’t get …
But right now I want to talk about a couple of quilting things I just don’t understand.

OK, firstly. Low Volume.

I’ll admit it. I just don’t get “low volume”.
I don’t. On the whole, to me, they’re a bit boring! I love me some good BOLD colour!
Not to the point that they hurt the corneas, but I’d love to see more lovely colour – please!

This is more my speed 😉

Maybe it’s just me.
I’m not really one for fads {Unless that fad includes Kate Spain! She can do no wrong in my eyes haha }
For example, I like chevron fabric.

I would even go so far as to say I really like some of them – if the colour’s right 😉
But I didn’t understand the whole craze surrounding them.
It seemed for a while there you couldn’t find a showcase or fabric
sale/shop without them and it drove me a little nuts …

Oh, and while I’m at it, why fuglies??
They’re truly fugly and I have no idea why any designer would make them!

Anyhow ….. On a different note, I forgot to share a fabulous little dress I made for a special girl to wear to Taylor Swift!

 MM 13MM 13 2

She looked fabulous in it too! 🙂
I think this is the most challenging garment I have ever made!
There is 10m of chiffon in that skirt and a lot of the sequins around the edges are hand sewn on 🙂
But I think it was worth it! The underneath work isn’t even close to my neatest unfortunately,
but that didn’t translate to a messy top luckily lol

Anyhow … off to do some Block sewing! 2 posts in 2 days plus still bursting with mojo – Squeee!

Time Flies When You’re Having Fun

“… And sometimes when you’re not.

Not that I’m having a bad time of things. Just in a bit of a rutt, or funk I think.

I seem to be procrastination more than usual and have lost my sewing ‘mojo’.
I was half way thru writing a whinge but then thought, “It wont help anything and will only make me feel bad” so I will instead post an inspirational picture from the wisest being I know of 😉 “

MANIC2

HMMMMMM
I wrote the above in early November … I have been so very slack with my posts! So sorry! {Not about Yoda – Yoda is good, Yoda is wise! He actually says this quote for my message alert on my phone! haha}.
I don’t know how I am ever going to become the most successful blogger in the world if I don’t actually blog! {Kidding, I have no such aspirations! If just one or two friends read this I will feel totally privileged! 😀 Anyone more is a bonus!}

Truth is, I was in a *total* funk back then!

I was going thru a transfer at work, taking on more work in my petminding and other endeavours and to be honest,
I just felt like I had no time to myself! My introverted self can sometimes come to the forefront and I can become claustrophobic and all peopled-out ….. I have also since then regained my sewing Mojo and we are firing ahead! Yaay!

This is the ‘inspirational’ picture I now need to live by :

MANIC

haha seems apt – I need to just DO for a change 🙂

I have mentioned I think, that I joined my very first Quilting Bee!! For our October Queen Bee we made Granny Squares!
Here are the ones I made her that I mentioned in my last post, oh-so-very-long-ago! :

Do you remember the cute little quilt I blogged about a couple of months ago? I finished her!!! Hooraaayyy!!
Here she is:

Pink ribbon Quilt

Please excuse the dull photograph, we have been lucky enough to have a bit of rain and haven’t had a totally clear day for a couple of days … I will have to take a couple more because it has been donated to TOMG’s Annual Pink Ribbon Auction and I’d love some nice clear, bright photos for that!

TOMG PINK RIBBON

I will link you all up to the album when it’s live and you can get a sneak peek!

I am also taking part in my first ever Quilting Bee!!! I am beside myself with excitement! Here are my blocks for October. They have arrived safely at their now home with the Queen already.
*they aren’t trimmed as I thought I’d allow our Queen a little wriggle room 🙂

IMG_2545

I haven’t tried it before so I had a lot of fun with this block {I also had to unpick one section no fewer than 7 – yes SEVEN – times! haha}

And guess what??!!

I am Queen this month! Squeeeeel!

I will do up a sample of my block choice over the weekend, time permitting and show you 🙂
Catch you soon xo

Catch Up!

Hmmm I seem to be very slack lately and all I do is play “Catch Up”
Manic Mumdays, sewing, household … Ugh!

I need to make some lists and work my way thru them.

I made this darling quilt months ago:

I’ve even quilted it! All it needs is the binding but I havnt gotten my shit together enough to get cracking on it!

Sleepy Sundays

Yayyyy for the weekend! Tho, I always feel a little grumpy on Sunday afternoons.

The weekend is drawing to a close and it’s back to the grind tomorrow …

It should be an interesting week 🙂 There will be dentist appts {the last of many – yayy!!}, extra swimming lessons, airport visits, school of course. I’m working Monday and Tuesday this week because Mr Manic is heading off on a boy’s “weekend” to Melbourne for football. His beloved Pies are playing his mates team and they are making a weekend of it 🙂 I hope he has a blast!!

I go away on my own a fortnight later to see the only woman I would turn for :
P!NK!!

I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am and how much I’m looking forward to some time away. Not so much time away from my boys {I will miss them with everything I am} but time away from the mundane day-to-day … and if I’m honest, from responsibility.

I will be catching up with lots of fabulous friends while I’m down there too.

My littlest man turns 4 the day before I leave. I can’t believe how time has flown! It seems like only yesterday I was pregnant!

My little ice cream monster 🙂 Love his guts!!

Sew, this is the last quilt I finished:

Quilt Market Night #1

I made it for the very first market night at a new page I am admin on : Market Night

Head on over and check it out, we are trying to hold one every few weeks and the more people who know about it, the more successful it will be! 🙂

My job for today is to bind a UFO and get into ironing a heap of fabric! 😀 😀 😀
I even found some at the bottom of the family ironing pile – I forgot all about it!!!
Just in time too cos some of it is Christmas fabric … not too early to sew for Christmas is it? lol

Which reminds me ….. Which side of the debate do you fall on – Pre-wash or no pre-wash?

Have a great Sunday!!!

The Cat is Out of the Bag

Good Morning!

Remember I said I was working on a secret squirrel project recently?

The item has now been delivered and I’d love to share the story with you all 🙂

4 1/2 years ago I discovered I was pregnant with our second child. I signed up to an online Baby Club, thinking it would be a place to find out information and meet some people in the same place in their lives.

Well!!!

Meet them I did! We were a group of 80 or 90 and over the years a few have dropped off, but even now we are round the 70 mark. We are spread out – all over Australia and New Zealand in fact. With one of us even jet setting off to Saudi Arabia last year!
Anyhow, we have become extremely tight-knit and have held meet-ups – both “mega” and “mini” {more for those close by to just have a coffee and playdate.} These ladies will be my life-long friends! We are family.

Sadly one of our family are going thru a sad, terrible, tough, heart-breaking time. They lost her beloved Dad unexpectedly a little while ago. And within weeks of that tragedy they were dealt a double blow. Their adorable, vibrant little boy, Devin was diagnosed with Leukemia. Treatment commenced almost immediately starting off with a trip on the Flying Doctor to Westmead Hospital.

Dev Before
This is Devin, look at that AMAZING hair!

Our group passed the hat around and treated Devin to an iPad – a wonderful tool for keeping little people occupied for hours, I know it keeps my 2 little and 1 big men enthralled!

But we wanted to do something a little more personal. One of our lovelies {hi Meg!} came up with the fabulous idea of making a quilt from blocks sent from all of our combined families! I was nominated to assemble it and off we went!!

Here are a couple of collages of blocks as I got them:

A page has been set up on Facebook to try to help this wonderful family out. They are holding an Auction night on the 16th August, please head on over and check it out. The link is HereThey are also gratefully accepting donations. Every cent goes to Devin and his family for living away from home costs.

Ohhhh Dear!

Ohhhh Dear!
Time has really gotten away from me in the last couple of months! I have been so busy! I’ve just completed one of the most special projects I’ve ever attempted. But I can’t share pics yet as it is still has “Secret Squirrel”* status.

I will however, share some pics of other quilts I have done recently…
This VHC one was made for stock but sold really quickly {within a day!} on my Facebook page:

VHC Quilt

And this woodland themed one, ordered specially for my friend’s gorgeous, new little niece:

TLR Woodland Quilt

And I made this VHC pram/playmat Raggy for a colleague’s little boy born last week :IMG_1885

I also have this sweet little cot quilt waiting patiently for some binding:

And the back :

Cant wait to finish this one-off. We have guests coming and I will be sewing for a Market Night in between … And August isn’t looking much calmer. Hubby is going away for a football weekend mid-month. Sounds fit and healthy doesn’t it? Sadly it involves more watching footy and drinking beer than playing haha He will have fun tho, I am sure 🙂 And I will be going away at the end of August to see P!NK – yeah baby! I am hanging out for that!!!!!! Going to catch up with some fabulous friends there too! 😀

Maybe September will be a sewing month. My next quilt will be a Pow Wow by Cluck Cluck Sew Patterns.
I cant wait to get into that baby! 🙂

Anyhow, hope all’s well in your corner of the world, and I will be back over the weekend to reveal my super special last project once its SS* status is lifted … Kate xo

* Secret Squirrel {from now on known as “SS” 😉 } When we were kids, if we wanted something kept super secret we’d say “Secret squirrel business” and tap our noses wisely 🙂

Where has May gone???

Hmmmm … Where did May go???

Why, oh why does time go so fast? Is it just cos I’m a Mum now? Or is it the same for everyone?

I swear it never used to fly so …

I have just farewelled my gorgeous sister Boo, her hubby, and her 3 gorgeous little munchkins – Lockstar, Potater and Moo

😦 So I am sad.

Going to drag my sewing stuff back out and mess my loungeroom up again now! I have some mending and a replacement t-shirt to do first and then I am laying out 2 cot quilts and have some skirts and bunting cut out and ready to sew this week.

The last 2 things I sewed last week :
A shirred maxi dress (CKC pattern, I did the sew along with them again!) for Moo and Darth Vader cape for JoJo.
I was most upset to see he had taken it off at school for the costume parade … he looked so totally awesome I thought!!
