Bag Lady – Another finish!

I am a bag lady.
I love carrying a bag to put all my essentials in. I generally have a handbag for every day use; a backpack for when I need to have my hands free; and a large tote style for work.

I had a couple of days off last week and made myself a new work tote!
It was from a mini MODA charm pack I had hanging round and some scrap denim I have been cutting up for another project I have on the go.

I just free styled all the charm pieces together and surrounded them with recycled denim, sandwiched and FMQ’d the front:Then I put two pieces with pockets together for the back :
A couple of long 4″ strips sewn together, turned right way round and double stitched each side for added strength (those faded seams in the middle of the handles are from wear at the bottom of the jeans!):Tagged! :
And a gorgeous pop of Tula Pink colour for the lining! Here I am turning it in the right way after stitching it all together:
It’s a pretty good size too, at about 18″ long and 16″ wide at the mouth. It fits a lot of bits and pieces, so is perfect for work or even shopping πŸ™‚Β I gave it a rectangle bottom so it looks tapered.
❀
While I was making it I decided that since the denim had a bit of stretch, I should over-lock the seams. But I was lazy and had a look thru my unused stitches, sure that there would be a solution. If nothing else, I would zigzag the edges. I found a locking stitch!! Look at this below!!
Just like an over-locker but I didn’t have to drag mine out and rearrange my sewing table lol I love finding new features! ❀
Not sure what I will sew this weekend. Might work on a UFO … What are you sewing at the moment?Β Hope you’re having a wonderful week!

A Finished Top!

Hey y’all πŸ™‚

As you might remember, I participated in Ms Midge‘s Heather Bailey Charm Swap and subsequent Charm Along recently?
{While you check out Ms Midge’s page, why not join in the Aussie Aurifil Club?? Those threads are simply gorgeous! ❀ }

HB CA Ms MidgeLook at all of the pretties we swapped!!

Well, I was sewing like a demon to finish in time for the deadline {linked at 11.45 for the 12.00 deadline! haha} And this is the result :

HB Charm Along finishedWonky Stars!! Can you see the secondary white wonky pinwheels?
I am working tomorrow, but planning on whipping up a quick backing on Sunday and quilt it next week some time.

I love it, but kinda wish the stars and pinwheels both stood out more … So I think I might try this one again down the track but use deeper colours and stars all in one colour and see how that turns out πŸ™‚

I still haven’t used my precious Amy Butler Charm Along squares yet!!! I MUST get onto using them soon …

Anyhow, this one was meant to be a shorty – see you with a finish next week hopefully!

A New Charm Along!!!

Did I tell you I was participating in Ms Midge’s latest Charm Swap?
This time round we’ve swapped Heather Bailey Charms.
HB CA Ms MidgeLet me tell you – they are GORGEOUS!!! This crappy nighttime photo certainly doesn’t do them justice, but here is the only one I have of my actual bundle:
HB Charm swap goodiesI was busy sorting when I took this as an after thought and I have already cut into them! lol

Ms Midge’s Heather Bailey Charm-Along kicked off this week, and I have a fantastic plan for these babies!!
No HST this time πŸ˜‰ Can’t wait to share some pics with you πŸ™‚

❀

I have a little quilt top finish to share today!
I have been Quilting Along with Nanny Margie and this is the top!

IMG_6562It’s a sweet little cot-sized baby boy quilt!
I have a plan for a quick backing using off cuts from the front, but need to pick up some batting to quilt it. I have some gorgeous striped binding ready too …

❀

After I get this Charm Along done I am going to be strict with myself and get a couple of UFOs finished. I should also have a clean out and destash a few fabrics. I swear I could almost start a fabric shop!

I have felt a little lost this week – this post was written days ago but I have had issues with my WiFi and printer … I was trying to set up my new printer and while uninstalling printer ‘stuff’ accidentally uninstalled something important 😦 eeekkk … Thankfully I have a fantastic Computer Wiz who sorted it all out for me!
Do you feel a little lost without your internet and printer too? πŸ™‚

I’m working allllll weekend long, but I really hope you have a great weekend!

Home again, home again lickity split …

Well.

We’re home – yaaay! {what I really mean is “Thank f*ck!”}

We had quite an eventful holiday.
It looked for a day or two like we wouldn’t even make the cruise ship!
My poor little man developed a chest infection which they thought might be pneumonia! It wasn’t thankfully and a course of antibiotics set him on the straight and narrow once again πŸ™‚ *Phew! I can’t stand it when one of my babies is sick!

Sadly it meant we had a shortened trip to Seaworld and the other 2 boys went off to Movieworld without us 😦 We spent the day warm and sleepy in the hotel room {I was sick too, but not as bad as Ryan} And it was far too cold to go to the water parks! There was, however, an awesome water park at the resort and Mark n Harry had a couple of plays in it … Crazy buggers!

Holiday 2Above, starting from bottom left : At the airport – We’re on our way!; Q1 from below; North from the top of Q1; South from the top of Q1; That’s the Qld/NSW border – we crossed over into cockroach country!; Coolangatta Beach.

Holiday 1
Above are some bits and pieces from our fractured Gold Coast visit.

We had to be at the port to board Pacific Jewel between 10.30-11am and man! There are some lines you have to wait in to get on those ships!! We finally boarded and were supposed to set off by 3 or 4. We ended up having dinner still in port and after some safety talks, we were at last on our way by around 7pm ish!

Holiday 3
Above is a pretty picture heading out on the Brisbane River; Us checking out our cabin and donning our safety vests while learning what to do if the worst was to happen πŸ™‚

We were at sea for 2 days and got into port in Noumea late afternoon. Which sadly left us only a couple of hours daylight to explore 😦 Oh well … We made our own fun in the city and visited a gorgeous old Cathedral, had a quick snack of twisties and coke in the park.

Holiday 4
Clockwise from top left : Ryan’s favourite place to watch the ocean {they claim to have seen flying fish one morning and a shark one afternoon haha}; Park fountain, Noumea; Archie, our fantabulous steward made towel animals for the kids a couple of times πŸ™‚ ; Me on Mare; The boys sitting in the window again; Ahoy Captain Ryan!; Some ALOT of DS was played; Ahoy Captain Harry!; And a cute little tug boat I couldn’t leave out πŸ™‚

Holiday 5
Leaving Vanuatu at dusk; All of us at a lookout on Vanuatu; We parked next to a kindy and these little ones jumped up to the fence and started yelling “Take my picture! Take my picture!” lol; Harry with a gorgeous Iguana on his hat; We got our picture with the village chief; Coming into Mare; The boys holding a Green Turtle; The warriors were very scary! πŸ˜‰ ; And the boys on Mare with Jewel in the background.

I, for one have decided I am NOT a cruiser. I didn’t much like it. I was bored and on the last 2 days seasick {despite taking seasick tablets} It was exceptionally AWESOME to not have to cook or clean tho! πŸ˜‰
And I really enjoyed checking out the islands. The kids loved the kids clubs and the food was lovely.

Holiday 6
Walking to the plane we glimpsed our ship heading off on her next adventure! Little dudes look deceptively happy to be on the plane heading home … I say deceptively because on that short flight they both {at different times} had sooking fits of “I miss Pacific Jewel” and “I miss my new friends” haha funny little dudes!

Now we are home, things are getting back to normal. Husband is back at work, kids are still on school holidays for another couple of days and I am getting back into my sewing πŸ™‚
It reeeeaaalllllly helps that I came home to a gorgeous bundle of Kate Spain charms from the swap organised by Ms Midge! πŸ˜€ I have chosen the quilt I will make with them and am keen as mustard to get elbow deep in it!
Sew, hopefully I will have a few pics of some blocks for it in my next post … Stay tuned πŸ˜‰
